Wardrobe Refresh: Simple Steps to Transition from Winter to Summer

What an amazing start to April, this weather is just gorgeous. With the brighter evenings and summer fast approaching, it’s the perfect time to give your wardrobe a seasonal refresh. Updating your wardrobe doesn’t have to be overwhelming, by following my guide below, you’ll free up space, reduce clutter, and make it easier to put together outfits. Below are my top tips for switching out your winter wardrobe and getting ready for summer;

1. Start with a Clear Out

Before you bring in your summer clothes, I suggest taking some time to review your winter items. Ask yourself:

- Did I wear this over the last few months?

- Does it still fit or suit my style?

- Is it in good condition?

If the answer is no, consider donating, recycling, or repurposing it. The less you store, the easier next winter will be!

2. Vacuum Pack Bulky Winter Items

Bulky coats, jumpers and scarves take up valuable space. If your wardrobe space is limited, vacuum pack these items to reduce volume and keep them fresh. Store them under the bed, on top of wardrobes, or in storage boxes in a spare room or attic.
Top Tip: Add a label to each vacuum bag, so you know exactly what you have. Consider adding a dryer sheet to keep clothes smelling fresh.

3. Rotate and Refresh

Bring your summer bits front and centre, so they are within easy reach. This is also a great time wash any items that may need a freshen up after being stored.

4. Elevate with Matching Hangers

I love matching hangers, they are a game-changer, a brilliant way to make your wardrobe look instantly more luxurious and organised? Not only do they look sleek and uniform, but they also help clothes hang better and reduce creasing. Wooden or velvet, choose a style that suits your aesthetic and space.

5. Group by Category (and Then by Colour)

Make getting dressed in the morning effortless by grouping similar items together: shirts with shirts, dresses with dresses, etc. Then, for a touch of visual satisfaction, organise them by colour from light to dark. It’s functional and beautiful.

6. Adopt the One-In, One-Out Rule

As you shop for new summer clothes, keep balance in mind. For every new item you add, consider donating or recycling one you no longer wear. It’s a simple rule that keeps clutter at bay.

7. Don’t Forget Footwear

Switch out your boots for sandals, trainers, and summer shoes. Store winter shoes like boots in breathable bags or boxes and label so you know what you have.

8. Add Storage Baskets

If you have open shelves or space above your wardrobe, stylish storage baskets can help keep seasonal accessories tidy and accessible. for example, sunhats & beach bags, can be all neatly stored in one place.

9. Folding Techniques

Folding clothes using a vertical or file-folding technique saves space and keeps everything visible and neatly in order. Great for Pj’s, jeans, tshirts etc.

A seasonal wardrobe refresh isn’t just about making space, it’s about making your everyday life feel easier and more enjoyable. With these few tweaks, your wardrobe can become a calm place to start your day.
